5th Place - Bermuda Triangle
Since the mid-19th century an area in the triangle-shaped Atlantic Ocean, with its vertices in Florida (USA), Puerto Rico and the Bermuda Islands, is considered the site of the mysterious disappearance of 50 ships and 20 aircraft. The natural (or supernatural) occurrences attributed to the region led the more believers to call it the place of the Devil's Triangle...
Vessels totally abandoned, with no sign of the bodies of its occupants, and ships and planes that have disappeared without leaving traces are the main evidences that sustain the supernatural theories on what happens there. In fact, geophysical characteristics of the region and climatic factors are probably the main causes of disappearances. In addition, there is the possibility of very rapid and turbulent sea currents, and failures in correcting navigation lead vessels to get lost and become involved in catastrophes.
4th Place - Bram Stoker Castle
The vampires were not born there, but the most famous of them all are. Immature in Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula would have been inspired by Vlad "Dracul" Tepes, prince and warrior leader who in the 15th century fought for the Order of the Dragon Riders alongside the Christians and against the Turks. Among the innumerable barbarities he would have committed were impaling his enemies and drinking their blood. The castle in which he lived is in Transylvania, currently located in Romania.
Built about two thousand years ago, Bram Castle is surrounded by mysteries about the existence of secret passages and supernatural events. Despite the legend that Vlad has become a vampire, what most frightens him in Bram Castle is the memories of his atrocities while still a human being.
3rd Place - Tomb of Tutankhamun
He was Pharaoh of ancient Egypt, having reigned between the years 1333 and 1323 BC. He reigned and died young at only 19 years of age. Like other pharaohs, Tutankhamun would have a dignified tomb to enjoy the afterlife, but due to his unexpected departure from this world he ended up buried in a small adapted tomb located in the Valley of the Kings. Forgotten and far from the main ones, who ended up victims of looters, the tomb of Tutankhamun was only discovered in 1922. It was entirely preserved and with all the relics left there along with the pharaoh's sarcophagus. The treasures of Tutankhamun are currently in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
The deaths of archaeologist Howard Carter, the discoverer of the tomb in mysterious circumstances, and the English noble patron of the expedition and some of his close friends and relatives after the discovery, fed the legend that the tomb would hold a "mummy curse" Which would strike all who would defile it.
2nd Place - Mayan Ruins
One of the oldest civilizations of the planet, born about three thousand years before Christ, endowed with advanced knowledge in architecture, astronomy and agriculture and that had a religion that required the practice of human sacrifices, the Maia Empire occupied what today is the Southern Mexico, Guatemala, northern Belize and western Honduras.
Its pyramids and religious temples and its capacity as warriors left the Spanish settlers haunted in the 16th century. At that time the Maya civilization was already declining and yet it resisted for twenty years the Spanish attacks. One of the most mysterious Mayan ruins is in Chichen Itza (Mexico) where the sacred well is used for rituals that included human sacrifices. Another mystery that haunts the Mayan ruins is to understand what led these people to abandon their cities several centuries before the Spaniards arrived.
1st Place - Stonehenge
Portal to another universe, sanctuary destined to heal, prehistoric computer for astronomical predictions, monument to the dead and eternal life. After several theories, mystical or scientific, Stonehenge remains a mystery. The giant circular monument formed by man-made stones, in six stages in the transition from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age (between 3,000 and 1,500 BC), continues to intrigue archaeologists and instigate the imagination of many people. Located in the south of England, Stonehenge presents concentric circles of stones up to five meters high and weighing about 50 tonnes.
Recent archaeological research indicates that Stonehenge was probably an astronomical observatory built by an ancient civilization for the purpose of observing the solstices and equinoxes accurately. Only many centuries later did he become a religious shrine to be found by the Druids. The advent of New Age mysticism, however, made Stonehenge the most important pilgrimage center for neo-pagan cults, despite the historical misunderstanding which is to identify it as a creation of the original Druids.
